Our childhood «scary movies»

These are a few of the movies that we watched and enjoyed in our childhood at this time of the year. Some of them were shown to us by our parents. We waited for others with a lot of excitement to be shown on TV.

This is one of the most traditional films to watch on Halloween. Its special effects are from the 80’s, but that makes the movie even better because you can see the great advances we have made.

I love this movie, the main actresses make it really funny and interesting to watch. I remember waiting every year for halloween just to watch this movie on Disney Channel while having dinner with my parents.

Review – ★★★★☆

It’s a really cute and funny story, where we see a kind ghost instead of the usual scary or killer ones. I would totally recommend this movie for children to watch during these spooky times.

Summary: «Workaholic real estate agent Jim Evers is accused by his wife, Sara of neglecting his son and daughter, so he takes the family on a vacation. Along the way, the family stops off at a sinister mansion that Jim has been asked to sell, only to discover it’s haunted by Master Gracey; Ramsley; and two other servants who need some help breaking a curse.»

Genre – Comedy horror / Mystery / Fantasy

Review – ★★★☆☆

It’s a really funny film, I personally didn’t like it very much because the plot didn’t resonate with me, but it’s the typical Disney halloween film and the actors are well known.

Summary: «When Victor is practicing his wedding vows in the woods, he accidentally gets married to a skeleton-like creature called Emily who whisks him off to the land of the dead.»

Genre – Drama / Animation / Musical

Review – ★★★★☆

This is one of the most iconic stop-motion movies of all times. Tim Burton really outdid himself by making such a remarkable piece of art. I really admire the effort that comes with making such a long stop-motion film, although it isn’t my favorite halloween movie.

Summary: «No adults believe three youths’ (Mitchel Musso, Spencer Locke, Sam Lerner) assertion that a neighboring residence is a living creature that means them harm. With Halloween approaching, the trio must find a way to destroy the structure before innocent trick-or-treaters meet ghastly ends.»

This is the BEST movie you could watch on halloween, or any time of the year. The animation is really well done, the characters are really funny and the plot is just amazing; when I was little I feared the old man who was their neighbor.

Summary: «The film follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington, who has become bored with the same annual routine of frightening people in the «real world.» When Jack stumbles on Christmas town, all bright colors and warm spirits, he gets a new lease on life. He plots to bring Christmas under his control by kidnapping Santa Claus and taking over the role.»

SPOILER ALERT! The animation in this movie is so well done that the «boogie man» actually gives me the creeps and it makes me feel uncomfortable because of the bugs that come out of his mouth.

Summary: «While exploring her new home, a girl named Coraline discovers a secret door, behind which lies an alternate world that closely mirrors her own but, in many ways, is better. She rejoices in her discovery, until Other Mother and the rest of her parallel family try to keep her there forever. Coraline must use all her resources and bravery to make it back to her own family and life.»

I really loved how the cat was the only one that really connected with Coraline as well as his neighbor Wybie. This movie is a must watch on Halloween and in my opinion it’s really scary.

I hope you have a spooky halloween! Stay tuned for more. 🙂
