The «Patria» vaccine is not completely Mexican, at least not in the way it was mentioned in a press conference on April 13.

Avimex (Mexican laboratory) will be in charge of the development and production of the first batches necessary for the clinical phases.

The collaboration is made closely with the School of Medicine «Icahn de Monte Sinaí» in New York, who licensed its development to the Mexican company to mass-produce it. The vaccine that would be completely manufactured in the Mexico is unprecedented because it uses a low-cost procedure, where even the remains of a SARS-CoV-2 virus are not needed for its manufacture. In fact, the vaccine has among its main components an influenza virus that has previously been used to create other vaccines for animals and is known as the NewCastle Disease virus, or NDV for its acronym in English.
