Disney continues to create original content for its streaming platform. A year ago the company announced that it is working on the adaptation of the stories of «Percy Jackson and the Olympian Gods» in series form, according to Rick Riordan, the creator of the literary saga.
The literary saga has five books to its name: ‘The Lightning Thief‘, ‘The Sea of Monsters‘, ‘The Titan’s Curse‘, ‘The Battle of the Labyrinth‘ and ‘The Last Olympian‘, being this last the story with which the first season would start according to its creator. Based on all these books, Disney could have enough material for many seasons.
The stories of this character will now be transferred to the world of streaming after the first adaptations for the world of cinema were made a few years ago in 2010, and later, in 2013 with a sequel. Both starring Logan Lerman.
And although they did not do very well in criticism, Disney will have the opportunity to dignify the stories with its new productions that it will make exclusively for its Disney + subscribers, where the creator will be personally involved with the project.
And now Rick Riordan, the author of the book series about the young demigod Percy Jackson, announced on his website that he has begun the process of selecting the actor who will play the protagonist of the story.
“I want to emphasize that it is a preliminary survey (with the talent agencies). We still have a long way to go before it is official or confirmed, but it is an indicator that things are going in the right direction, «wrote Riordan on his official website.
What age will Percy be? According to the writer, they are looking for an actor who can «represent 12 years.» The goal is to stay true to the original story, in which the character goes from 12 to 16 years old over the course of the series, «assuming we are lucky enough to do five seasons.»
What about the other characters? They will have to wait for the actor to be chosen for Percy. He will be followed, as expected, by his friends Annabeth and Grover.
Is there a specific racial group? That is not part of the description of the auditions, Riordan said. “We are looking for the best person who can bring the character in the books to life. And as in all these decisions, we will follow Disney’s policy, which is committed to being diverse and inclusive. «
